Viva Verdi! in Concert

Audience members were treated to  a variety of music by Giuseppe Verdi from the operas Aïda, Macbeth, Don Carlo, Luisa Miller, Il Trovatore, and La Traviata.  

They were performed  beautifully by soprano Kate Norigian, Mezzo-Soprano Julie Rumbold, tenor Daniel Juárez and Alexis Zingale, piano

Werther

This opera tells a story based on the book by Goethe.  Werther is a young poet who falls in love with Charlotte.  Bound by a promise to marry Albert, Charlotte renounces her attraction to Werther.  She marries Albert and makes Werther promise to go away.  But the separation brings no relief to the two young people.  Werther can see no positive outcome for their impossible love.

Riders to the Sea is a short one-act opera by Ralph Vaughan Williams, based on the play of the same name. It is a tragedy set in the Aran Islands off the coast of Ireland. The plot is based on the hopeless struggle of a people against the impersonal but relentless cruelty of the sea.
